Intent
At Lowercroft, we intend for children to know more, remember more and understand more in Design & Technology so that they leave primary school with not just a curiosity of how things work but to think creatively to invent and innovate products. We want the children to be able to take risks safely and solve problems by evaluating their designs, whilst giving them the freedom to explore. Our Design & Technology curriculum prepares all pupils to design and make products successfully in an increasingly technological world using the specific vocabulary of Design & Technology and following the research, design, make evaluate process in each and every project which they engage in.
Key topic areas include cooking and nutrition, mechanical systems, textiles, electrical systems, structures and the digital world. Throughout, learners are exposed to theoretical and practical elements of each topic and inspired to explore their interests and take risks. Design & Technology is all around us and will continue to be a crucial part of our world; we intend to develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world, preparing them for their future. Our curriculum has clear progression and builds and reflects on prior knowledge so that by the time they reach Year 6 each child is confident enough to use their skills as independently as possible.
