Enrichment Fridays

At Lowercroft, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our Friday Enrichment Programme gives every child from Year 1 to Year 6 the opportunity to explore new interests, develop practical skills and discover talents they may not have known they had.

Every Friday afternoon, children step away from their usual timetable and take part in a carefully planned enrichment activity. These experiences encourage children to be creative, curious and courageous while building their confidence, independence and ability to work with other

How Friday Enrichment Works:

Every Friday afternoon, children step away from their usual timetable and take part in a carefully planned enrichment activity. These experiences encourage children to be creative, curious and courageous while building their confidence, independence and ability to work with others.

Children take part in a different enrichment activity each half term. Throughout the year, each class rotates through six experiences, giving every child the opportunity to try something new.

The programme is reviewed annually so that we can introduce fresh activities while continuing to offer the experiences our children particularly enjoy.

.

Our 2026–27 enrichment programme brings together a varied range of activities designed to spark curiosity, develop new skills and give every child the opportunity to discover something they enjoy. Throughout the year, pupils will take part in different experiences alongside children from across the school. The table below shows the exciting enrichment opportunities planned for each year group.

Build a Baller Sessions

This regular access to specialist coaching is an exciting part of our wider offer and gives children opportunities to learn, improve and experience the joy of sport

Each of our enrichment activities offers something a little different, giving children opportunities to be creative, active, curious and adventurous. Below, you can find out more about the experiences included in this year’s programme and the skills, knowledge and confidence children will develop as they take part.

Forest School:

Led by Ms Tattersall, Forest School gives children the opportunity to explore, investigate and learn in the natural environment. Through practical challenges, teamwork and outdoor discovery, pupils develop their independence, resilience and confidence. It encourages them to show Curiosity about the world around them, Courage when trying something new and Respect for nature and one another.

Chess:

Miss Savery introduces children to the rules, strategies and challenges of chess. Pupils learn to think ahead, solve problems and make decisions independently while showing patience and Respect towards their opponents. Chess nurtures Curiosity, concentration and the Courage to learn from mistakes and try a different approach.

Samba Drumming:

Led by Mr Moss, Samba Drumming gives children an energetic introduction to rhythm, percussion and playing together as a group. Pupils listen carefully, follow musical patterns and contribute confidently to a shared performance. The sessions develop Courage, Independence and Curiosity while encouraging Respect for the contribution each child makes.

3D Art:

Mrs Kay’s 3D Art sessions allow children to experiment with materials, techniques, shape and form as they turn their ideas into three-dimensional creations. Pupils are encouraged to make their own creative choices, persevere when things do not go to plan and appreciate the work of others. This develops Curiosity, Courage and Independence alongside Respect for different ideas and forms of expression.

Performing Arts:

Miss Pearson’s Performing Arts sessions invite children to express themselves through drama, movement, voice and performance. Pupils use their imagination, work collaboratively and build the confidence to perform in front of others. This develops Courage and Curiosity while helping children to show Empathy and Respect by listening to and supporting one another.

Staying Safe:

Led by Mrs Jones, Staying Safe helps children develop the knowledge and practical skills they need to make sensible choices in different situations. Pupils learn to recognise potential risks, respond appropriately and understand when and how to seek help. The sessions strengthen Independence and Courage while promoting Empathy and Respect for the safety and wellbeing of others.

Sign Language:

Mrs Parkinson introduces children to sign language and helps them explore different ways in which people communicate. As pupils learn and practise new signs, they develop confidence, concentration and an appreciation of the importance of inclusive communication. This activity has particularly strong links to Empathy and Respect, while also encouraging Curiosity and Independence.

Food Technology:

Led by Miss Naz, Food Technology gives children valuable opportunities to prepare food and develop practical skills. Pupils learn to follow instructions, work safely and become increasingly confident and independent when completing each stage of a recipe. The sessions inspire Curiosity about ingredients and food while promoting Respect, cooperation and the Courage to try something new.

 My Enrichment Passport

Every child receives an  Enrichment Passport to record their journey through the programme.

At the end of each half term, children add their completed activity to their passport and reflect briefly on what they experienced, the skills they developed and the ERICC values they used.

Take a look through our gallery (below)to see some of the exciting enrichment activities our children enjoyed last year. We will continue to add new photographs as this year’s programme progresses, capturing the children as they explore new experiences, develop their skills and discover new interests. Please check back regularly to see our Enrichment Fridays in action!

Each academic year, children will receive a new Enrichment Passport featuring the activities included in that year’s programme. As they take part, their passport will become a record of the experiences they have enjoyed, the skills they have developed and the new interests they have discovered. At the end of the year, children will take their passport home to keep. By the time they leave Lowercroft, they may have collected up to six passports—a special reminder of their enrichment journey, the many opportunities they experienced during their time with us and, hopefully, the activity that inspired a lasting interest or a real passion.
