Mrs Kay

Welcome to Mrs Kay's Class!

Year 1 The Owls

Love and Learning. We’re all about these in The Owls!

Love - of each other; through kindness, acceptance and being a good friend, but also love of our world; our school and the wider environment.

Learning- to become confident readers, writers and mathematicians, whilst getting excited by finding out new things.

When we add these two things together our aim is to develop a love of learning!

Our class is made up of the youngest year 1 children and so our year together starts as a gentle journey, as the children are nurtured into formal learning. Building independence skills and gaining resilience for learning are central to our first term together.

We take a huge pride in each and every achievement, no matter how small, as they’re all steps on our learning journey.

In whatever we do, we encourage a growth mindset and that’s why we have as our class motto ‘I can’t do it…yet!’ We want our children to become creative thinkers and problem solvers who are ready to face the new challenges each subsequent year group will bring.

Information about The Owls class

Reading at Home

It is important that children continue to practise their reading skills at home on a daily basis.  With this in mind you may find the following website useful as a source of colour banded books to supplement the books they are bringing home from school. Simply select books from the same colour band which your child is sent home then encourage them to read the book aloud and practise their recall and comprehension skills as you would normally.

Oxford Owl

Simply register as a parent and you will be given access to a range of books linked to your child's age and book band colour.

A printable sheet for your child to practice Y1 spellings along with their handwriting.
